This book was written primarily with the first time home buyer in mind. I have been in the mortgage (credit) business for 20 years now. It’s tougher than ever to get approved for good credit loans, credit score requirements have increased as much as 100 points over the last four years. The average applicant’s credit score has dropped by as much.

Where does this leave you? The person with a dream to own your own home or buy that sail boat to go cruising around the world. Forever dreaming that’s where.

I get at least 10 people a day asking me “What’s the secret to getting a loan today?” “Make sure you replace your bad credit with good credit and never pay off older bad credit” That is my standard answer and goes against most what most so called experts with no experience will tell you.

I’ve got 20 years of happy homeowners who have gone on to start a businesses, invest in real estate, and do other amazing things they could not have done had they not gotten their credit and money management under control. Imagine what you could do if you were able to reduce your house payment by $500 per month, save 5%-10% in interest and other fees on the debt you carry, get that 0% APR car loan you see advertised with the fine print reading “740 credit score required”. You can achieve all this and more without getting ripped off by those bogus credit repair scammers.

If you read this book I guarantee you’ll be able to improve your credit and move your life in the right direction for a change. If not I’ll personally review your situation and answer any questions you might be able to come up with after reading this book. You won’t be disappointed wit the results you can achieve making a few simple changes to your financial habits.

Fifteen years ago I moved to California from England, with my husband and three small children. When we did, I got rid of half the toys, half the books and half the clothes. That was my goal. We had to pay for everything to be shipped, so the less we shipped the less we paid. When you do a move like that you really see the value of the stuff you have. Lots of stuff that I would have kept in my home if we had stayed in England I realized that I really didn’t want or need, and so we got rid of it.

We arrived in an empty house with just with the contents of 2 suitcases. That was all the stuff we had for 8 weeks until the rest of our stuff arrived. And it was bliss. We did have to do laundry frequently because we kept running out of clothes. The children were fully entertained in an empty house and I didn’t have to do much putting away of toys every day because they only had one toy each. The children got creative and I realized just how much they don’t need a mound of toys to play with. Although one toy might be good and educational, many just became a pile of work for mom at the end of the day.

By the time our stuff arrived, we felt we didn’t need it. We actually felt we had a life without all the excess. A few months later I donated some of our stuff to a thrift store and I remember thinking that we had paid to import it and yet we didn’t want all of it and there was enough to make a donation so soon after our arrival.

I’ve kept that feeling with me ever since, that having less stuff is better because the stuff that we do have takes looking after, sorting, tidying, cleaning. With less stuff I have a life. Some stuff is good, but too much stuff becomes clutter.

St Elmo’s Fire tells the tale of ex-Seaman Jack Druce who has joined the fire brigade in the 1950′s. It doesn’t take long before Jack comes to seriously regret the day he didn’t look away when he first glimpsed the St Elmo’s Fire phenomenon at sea. His bad luck continues as he then makes the mistake of agreeing to join a group of rogue ex-firemen who are planning to steal a priceless work of art.

Follow Jack’s adventures in a fire decimated warehouse, then during the daring heist; before back at sea he goes on the run from the law and is confronted by others who want to steal the stolen artwork from him.

The story moves along rapidly and twists and turns in line with the thrill of the chase. The plot contains danger, excitement, romance, and more than a little of the Liverpool sense of humour. Ultimately Jack Druce and the readers are left with an intriguing riddle to solve that refuses go away. Just like the St Elmo’s Fire phenomena it flickers, dies and then flares up again.

This book will appeal to readers who enjoy the following topics:

Crime fiction, thrillers, suspense, sailing, sea adventures, romance, humour, stolen art, fires and fire fighting.

James Cassaday decided to write St Elmo’s Fire in order to put to good use his extensive knowledge of both fire fighting and sailing. James had often pondered on the idea that it would be quite possible for firemen attending a fire to steal works of art or other valuable property without attracting attention or suspicion. This book has been born out of that theory.

James Cassaday was born in 1934 where he had a narrow escape from an early death in World War II when his family home in Gosport was destroyed by a German bomb destined for Portsmouth dockyard. These experiences lead James to undertake a series of careers that allowed him to fulfill his need to protect both life and property, beginning with a short spell in the Merchant Navy. James went on to enlist in the Royal Air Force where he became a coxwain in the Marine Craft Section (the peacetime equivalent of Air Sea Rescue). This was followed by a 35 year long career in the Fire Service and gained him the The Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Award for saving life, and the award of the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for distinguished service.

James retired holding the rank of Chief Fire Officer and today he lives on the Channel Island of Guernsey where his interests now centre on writing, gardening and sailing.

Bailiwick Gold is set in the Channel Island of Guernsey, and begins in 1943 during World War II. The book tells the story of how five gold bars are both procured, and then ultimately hidden around Guernsey by German Lieutenant Carl Schmidt. Unfortunately for Schmidt he is sent away from Guernsey in disgrace, and ultimately he does not survive the war, (although he leaves a tantalising clue as to where the gold bars have been carefully hidden).

Jump forward in time to 1996 and the plot begins to follow the progress of various individuals who have heard the legend of these missing gold bars, are in possession of the relevant clues, and are frantically trying to track the gold down for their own coffers. The treasure hunt is complicated by the extremely dangerous tides and currents that surround the Channel Islands, as well as the lack of any complete information as to where the gold has been hidden.

A gripping and intriguing novel that refuses to be put down as you see the dangers facing those who are following this cryptic treasure trail, and find yourself holding your breath as our hero and heroine race against less savoury individuals who will stop at nothing to obtain this gold for themselves.

Bailiwick Gold will appeal to readers who have an interest in World War II, and more specifically the German Occupation of the Channel Islands. Additionally it will be a popular choice for people interested in the following types of novel: sailing and sea adventures, treasure hunts, suspense, romance and anything to do with Guernsey in the British Channel Islands.

James Cassaday was inspired to write this book when it occurred to him that it was very likely that German soldiers stationed on Guernsey during the Occupation of the Channel Islands would have felt a need to plan ahead for an uncertain future. The best way they could do this would have been to procure as much ‘loot’ as they could, and then hide it away for later retrieval. Of course many of these soldiers might well not survive the war, and then their hidden treasure would remain hidden, that is unless they left behind any clues for descendants to follow at some time in the future.

This book is the result of James Cassaday’s idea as to one such scenario and how it might develop.

Rough Sea Justice tells the story of Guernsey resident James Cook, a man who inadvertently kills two intruders that have broken on to his small yacht whilst he is asleep on board. James is well aware that all too often the legal system seems to protect the criminals, whilst punishing those who physically defend their property against them. Fearful of the consequences of his actions he decides to fake his own death and then go on the run on board his yacht Zephyr. The plan quickly begins to go wrong, as James rapidly bounces from one crisis to another, quickly realising he is being pursued by those who seek vengeance against him.

Although the plot is serious in nature, the tone of this book is upbeat throughout, and in spite of the dangers and setbacks there are plenty of moments that provide smiles and laughs for the readers, with a good dash of romance thrown in along the way.

This book will appeal to readers who have an interest in any of the following types of books, adventure stories, crime, murder, suspense, sailing, the sea, Guernsey in the Channel Islands, romance and the law.

James Cassaday was inspired to write this book because of the frustration he felt whenever he saw a news item that showed yet another case where a person defending themselves or their property against criminal activity, ended up in more trouble with the law than the perpetrators themselves.

James Cassaday was born in 1934 where he had a narrow escape from an early death in World War II when his family home in Gosport was destroyed by a German bomb destined for Portsmouth dockyard.

Tracey Edward’s latest book 30 Day Spending Detox is a fun guide that contains a one month plan for saving a lot of money in a short amount of time.

It’s perfect for those people who want to shake up their finances and get real about how much their spending is contributing to their debt levels or lack of savings. The author manages to keep the topic simple and fun as she holds your hand through your own spending detox.

With debt levels rising around the world it makes sense that the best way to get ahead financially would be to either spend less or earn more. And of course it’s much easier to spend less than it is to find some hidden money under the mattress.
But even if your budget is already stretched and you couldn’t possibly spend any less, Edwards does give some great tips on earning more money including blogging, selling on eBay and other simple ways you can make some money to help boost the finances.

The book covers everything from saving money at the grocery store to how to handle unexpected expenses when they arise, and of course what to do with your money after the month is over. She even includes a journal of her own spending detox at the back so you can see how she handled the month.

While not spending may seem radical, it’s definitely a wakeup call to how much we overspend on things we don’t even really need and if we just simplify our lives it can actually be much easier and less stressful.

This book will save you more than it cost you as you make a great kick-start to changing your finances for the better. I’ll definitely be doing my own no spend month to see how much I can save.

David Gaughran is an Irish writer of fiction. He’s also an enthusiastic convert to self-publishing. Although he’s not the first frustrated would-be fiction writer to turn to self-publishing, he is one of the few to have really understood the enormous changes the publishing industry is currently undergoing. Thanks to Amazon, this industry is going through the largest changes since the invention of the printing press, and indie authors like Gaughran are at the forefront of it.

Let’s Get Digital – although primarily aimed at the would-be self-published author – is of interest to anyone who is intrigued by the huge changes that are currently occurring in publishing. To the reader this is turning into a golden age of cheap ebooks, for writers is the start of an entirely new business model. One that puts them in control of both their artistic works, and the marketing of themselves and their books.

This book runs to 175 pages in the pdf version, is split into three sections. Section one covers the details of the Digital Revolution, with particular emphasis on what it means for writers, agents and publishers. For those readers who are concerned that eBooks are too cheap – its an eye-opener to see that an author self-publishing a book at $2.99 is actually earning more in royalties than they would have with a traditionally published paper back priced at $9.99.

In the second section Gaughran presents a comprehensive 10 step outline for author’s wanting to self-publish. Everything from cover design, editing, pricing, websites, social networking and blog tours are covered.

Part 3 consists of 33 success stories of successfully published indie ebook authors. Some of the names you might know include: Bob Mayer, Jason Letts and KC May.

Frustrated with repeating the same information on how to travel light, and why you should, after 30 years of travel she decided to write it all down!

Designed specifically for eBook readers – this is a book that is to the point – who needs to read through hundreds of pages just to figure out how to fit your entire wardrobe in your carry on? Yes that includes the girls too!

Chapter 1: Packing – A Travel Philosophy

Most books of this type will begin by explaining why you do or do not need a new set of matching wheeled luggage and/or arguing the merits of a soft bag v. a hard-shell suitcase. We will get to that, but let’s start with the important thing in this process: why you need to think quite carefully about your packing list.

My philosophy of packing is quite simple: less is more. Take what you need but no more. The trick, of course, is defining what you “need” with specificity.

Packing light isn’t just a matter of saving your back or saving some airline luggage fees; those are really just added benefits. Packing light is truly at the essence of how to make whatever type of trip you are taking more enjoyable. Why? Travel is all about experience, and packing light improves the experience.

The 20-somethings sitting on the Thai beach chatting to friends on Facebook on their iPhone are missing the moment – missing that they are at this very moment on a stunning beach in a fascinating country surrounded by some of the nicest people on the planet and totally oblivious to both the annoying beach vendor trying to sell them a tacky snow-dome of Patong Beach for 20 baht, the majestic sunset and the local families swimming fully-clothed.

Similarly, travelers who must relentlessly track and count their multiple suitcases and other bags as they enter and exit taxis and hotel receptions are giving too much attention to their luggage and missing at least a portion of the life and fun going on around them. At best, they are wasting time and effort which could be more pleasantly deployed – sampling the local beer in a pub, perhaps – and at worst, they are ruining their honeymoon dream trip because they’re worried about whether they’ve lost the cream-colored bag with the six pairs of shoes in it.

Now just to be clear: it’s obvious I now prefer to travel light, but I haven’t always had that luxury. I have experienced the alternative, tracking and counting seven bags shared between two adults as we schlepped between planes, buses and taxis. I’ve combined work with travel when I’ve had to carry a large case filled with a computer (yes, a computer, not a laptop), books, papers and cables. My personal record for weight carried without paying extra airline fees was 97lbs (44kg), checked between two of us, and each with a carry-on bag weighing about 22lbs (10kg).

It wasn’t fun. It was stressful remembering how many bags I needed to track and checking to ensure I had them. Loading and unloading those bags was hard on my back and my arms, and it was hard on my budget when door-to-door taxis were required because I couldn’t walk even short distances or manage the airport bus. I did it because I had to, not because I wanted to.

Perhaps you think you can’t travel light, reasoning: I’m older, I need to look good at the opera, I’m traveling for months from the snow to a tropical beach, etc. Then again, perhaps you’ve just made some of the best arguments of all for traveling with less instead of more!
Older people are, in general, less fit than their younger counterparts. They may indeed be traveling with medical conditions that require medication, but even a complicated cocktail of pharmaceuticals won’t require much weight (or space, if it’s packed right). Your age has no relevance to the rest of your packing list.

I personally love the opera and going to a ballet performance at Covent Garden’s famous theater was a personal highlight of a London visit. It didn’t require me to pack a tiara, travel iron and full-length evening dress, however. I wore black dressy slacks, a pretty silk blouse that weighted next to nothing and a less than sophisticated but quite waterproof (and quickly removed and checked) jacket. Sure, I didn’t have a handbag or makeup, but no one threw me out or even looked at me twice because of it. And, the ballet performance – the experience – remains a cherished memory I can carry with me for all of my days.

Traveling for six months needs more gear than traveling for a six-day vacation, right? Actually, no; quite the opposite, in fact!

In this chapter, I want to explain the WHY behind taking less than you think you need on your next vacation.

The author has created a website to complement the book: VacationPackingListBook.com.

There are plenty of legally free eBooks. What’s the difference between – legal and illegal eBooks. Well its not hard – illegal eBooks are stolen – from an author who is trying to make a living – and pirated. You will find them from various well-known pirate sites – it may sound exotic – but is stealing – just the same as when you walk into a bookshop and steal a book from the shelves.

If you have unthinkingly done just that – I suggest you go and buy your own copy – its called kharma or doing the right thing or something old-fashioned like that.

Which is not to say that there is not a life-time of legally free reading available to anyone who has an eBook reader, smartphone or computer

The free books here fall into two main groups:

Public Domain books. These are books whose copyright has expired – this covers a lot of the classics – and can be a great way to either do your required reading from school for free. Sometimes you will see a public domain book offered in several versions – e.g. Pride and Prejudice, some are non-free – because they have had extra content added: normally images, a click able table of contents, or maybe several books by the same author combined into a omnibus edition (this can be a good idea – it stops your book lists on your eBook reader getting out of control).

Books that authors or publishers are offering as free as a teaser to a book series. Or as a special from a new author to get you interested in their other work.
